About Leucadia
Leucadia is located in the San Diego-Carlsbad metro area, in the northern San Diego County, California. The name of the city comes from a Greek island and it was given by English spiritualists who settled in the area in the 1870s. Local street names in Leucadia are drawn also from mythology, such as Hygeia, Jupiter and Vulcan.
Leucadia is famous for the many Eucalyptus trees which are on the main road running north and south, the Coast Highway and along the railroad tracks. On the North of Leucadia is the Batiquitos Lagoon, on the east is the freeway and on the west is the Pacific Ocean.
Along side of the South Coast Highway 101 tourist can find a lot of surf shops, tattoo parlors, extravagant old restaurants, rustic inns, donut shops, hair salons, a drug store, bike rental places, pizza shops and many others.
Leucadia is a tourist city because of its seaside location with many beaches (Grandview, Beacon's), vacation rentals such as homes, nurseries, hotels, apartment buildings, trailer parks and luxury mansions near the ocean. Tourists can enjoy here spectacular ocean views, ride a bike, walk, sun bathe, watch the sunrise or the sunset, or if they want more adrenalin they can participate in a surfing contest. Everyone can learn to surf at the Leucadia Surf School. In the surrounding area you can find the Quail Botanical Gardens (with the largest display of bamboo in the world) and gardens at the Self Realization Center, situated near the ocean. There is a significant flower growing industry in the Leucadia.
A very wide range of housing styles can be admired around Leucadia: from the Caribbean style colonials to the Nantucket in New England.
The natural rustic beauty, along with temperatures between 40 and 85 degrees year-round and a diversity of housing styles make Leucadia a spectacular place to visit, and why not live here.
